Nash Daily: Glass Helps Canada Move On At IIHF World Championship

Nashville Predators forward Cody Glass had an assist and 13 minutes of ice time in while centering Canada’s top line in a 3-1 win over Czechia on Tuesday at the IIHF World Championship. The 24-year-old center, who scored 14 goals and 35 points in 72 regular-season games this season, recorded three points in seven games for Canada during the preliminary round.

The win moves the Canadians to the quarterfinal round against Finland on Thursday. The quarterfinal winners will be reseeded for the semifinal round.

Former Predators forwards Rocco Grimaldi (one assist) and Nick Bonino (one goal) helped lead the USA over Finland 4-3 to close out the preliminary round of the IIHF World Championship on Thursday. USA’s undefeated run earned the team first place in Group A, the top seed in the quarterfinal round and a matchup with Czechia on Thursday.

“Any time you get to a medal round at a World Championship, you deserve to be there,” Bonino said after the game. “It doesn’t matter what team we face. If it’s Latvia, we’re going to their home rink and playing them. If it’s Slovakia, they took Canada to a shootout. They’re a team that can beat anybody. So we’ll be ready, we’ll focus on ourselves and see what happens.”
