Nash Daily: Trotz Tinkers With Preds Roster, Frustration in Pittsburgh

Nashville Predators GM Barry Trotz

Nashville Predators general manager Barry Trotz has wasted no time in his attempt to constantly improve his roster, making his second waiver claim of the month over the weekend, adding former Columbus Blue Jackets center Liam Foudy.

Nashville also claimed Samuel Fagemo from the Los Angeles Kings on Oct. 2. Fagemo made an immediate impression during his Predators debut on Saturday night, scoring a power-play goal in a 5-1 victory over the San Jose Sharks at Bridgestone Arena.

In Case You Missed It

Fagemo got his opportunity to enter the lineup after center Cody Glass suffered a lower-body injury in a 4-1 win over the New York Rangers on Thursday. Glass is expected to miss 7-10 days.

Defenseman Luke Schenn, who hasn’t played since the season opener, was placed on injured reserve over the weekend. We discussed how the Predators could be affected if they placed Schenn on IR or long-term IR, which would open up a spot on the active 23-man roster. It can be read here.

Schenn’s placement on IR permitted Nashville to claim Foudy through waivers without having to send anyone to the AHL or make additional roster adjustments. Trotz has proven he’s not afraid to get creative when it comes to adding to or fielding a competitive roster.

The Milwaukee Admirals opened their season on Saturday, suffering a 3-2 defeat to the Texas Stars. Roland McKeown and Egor Afanasyev scored the Ads lone goals while Yaroslav Askarov stopped 21 of 24 shots. Both Askarov and Afanasyev were highly ranked in our organizational prospect rankings over the summer.

As the Predators suffer injuries, can Marc Del Gaizo be a call-up some time this season?
