The Nashville Predators are parting ways with forward Cody Glass and his $2.5 million salary after three seasons.

Glass has been dealt to the Pittsburgh Penguins along with Minnesota’s 2025 third-round pick and a 2026 sixth-round pick in exchange for minor-league forward Jordan Frasca, the team announced Tuesday afternoon.

Given how Glass struggled to crack Nashville’s regular lineup in 2023-24, the move doesn’t come as a surprise. The trade also gives the Predators some salary cap space with three restricted free agents – defenseman Marc Del Gaizo and forwards Juuso Parssinen and Philip Tomasino – still unsigned.

Glass, 25, looked to have a bright future with the team just one year ago when he was fresh off a breakout 2022-23 campaign. The 6-foot-3 center saw time on Nashville’s top line and finished the season with 35 points (14 goals, 21 assists) and a plus-9 rating.

But he didn’t enjoy nearly as much success during coach Andrew Brunette’s first season in charge.

Glass missed time due to injuries and as a healthy scratch, and in the 41 games he did play, the 2017 No. 6 overall pick managed just 13 points (6 goals, 7 assists) with a minus-9 rating. He didn’t appear in any of Nashville’s six playoff games.

“I don’t want to swear, but it was rough,” he said in May. “I was going through my meetings and I was sick to my stomach that I couldn’t play. It’s my own doing… I’m going to make sure this never happens again.”

Brunette acknowledged Glass’ struggles on and off the ice during the team’s end-of-season press conference. Tuesday’s trade provides both parties a clean break.

“I think he’s got to find himself a little bit,” Brunette said. “I think he lost a lot of confidence, and I think he lost himself a little bit along the way. I think he lost a little bit of his reason why – why does he play? So I think he’s on his own little journey of finding that.”

Frasca spent most of last season with the ECHL’s Wheeling Nailers, tallying a career-best 11 goals and 22 assists. The 23-year-old will likely aim to earn a roster spot with the Milwaukee Admirals after making 11 AHL appearances over the past two years.
