According to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, the Nashville Predators are closing in on a maximum eight-year extension with goaltender Juuse Saros.

The deal reportedly will carry a $7.74M AAV, per Chris Johnston of TSN. This continues the trend of contracts matching a player’s jersey number.

Saros boasts a 182-119 career record with a .917 SV% and 2.63 GAA. Saros was a Vezina Trophy finalist for the NHL’s best goaltender in 2021-22. He has been the starter in Nashville for the last three seasons where he has played in over sixty games in each of them as he guided the Predators to two playoff appearances.

The extension comes after weeks of speculation over what the future between the pipes in Nashville may look like with rising start Yaroslav Askarov in the pipeline.

The deal can be made official after the new league year begins Monday.
